The Mercedes-Benz Star – An Evolution
There is no logo more iconic than the Mercedes-Benz star! It is one of the most recognized brand symbols in the world! The three pointed star represents the drive toward universal motorization with its engines dominating the land, sea, and air. Over the years the logo has incorporated other elements like the laurel wreath for racing heritage, new colors for print and digital publishing and just recently, the Social Distance Star. This star was designed by a fan – @Marcel_lo_loca on Instagram! If you take a look back through the years there have been huge variations. I picked up the red pin above at the Delivery Center in Sindelfingen many years ago and it one of my favorites.
While we are all keeping our distance, this might be an excellent time to learn more about the history of the star and of the brand. The Mercedes-Benz Museum has a full digital tour available that will take you through all of the floors as well as the special exhibits that you cannot currently see at the museum in Stuttgart. (They are closed to visitors during Spring 2020.) I have visited several times over the years and ranked it #1 on my Car Museums of Europe Tour! The museum is best enjoyed by taking an elevator to the top and the spiraling down from the first vehicle to the future of the automobile! The race car section is one of my favorites. Here is the link to the Mercedes-Benz Museum website so you can take your tour and decide for yourself!
I certainly miss travelling and look forward to getting back to the museum soon! Every time I have visited there have been new exhibits to explore. Maybe with a little peace and quiet there will be a major revamp while we are all kept away.

Mercedes-Benz European Delivery on Hold – March 23, 2020
Daimler has closed their offices in Europe for at least the next two weeks and cannot currently accommodate European Delivery picks-ups. They are working closely with MBUSA and will direct ship these vehicles to your home dealership without penalty. This is the plan until at least mid-April.
This is a fluid situation and will be updated asit evolves. If you have a European Delivery scheduled and are concerned about your travel plans please reach out to your dealership. They will be able to offer you alternatives and make suggestions to minimize the disruption.
If you currently have cabin fever and are dreaming about your next trip, please consider European Delivery! It is a wonderful opportunity to drive your own vehicle in Europe and see things you might not see from a tour bus or at a resort. I know this is not the moment to be finalizing plans but it doesn’t hurt to start dreaming early!

2020 Mercedes-AMG G63 in Rubellite Red Metallic (660)
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is an icon of the automotive world. First introduced in 1978, it has had very fewmodification over the decades. That changed in 2019 with the introduction of the new body style. For the first time we could enjoy all of the modern amenities of Mercedes-Benz, along with the classic lines of the G-Wagen. Welcome to the modern era!
The most common color for a G-Class in real life is Black. At any given moment if you search for pre-owned G500’s or G550’s you’ll find a swarm of black vehicles with a few in white or silver and the very rare specimen in a color. Mercedes must have been in the mood to change this because the G-Class currently has the most possible available exterior paints, even without choosing a custom paint through the PA1 Special Order Program.
Beyond Black and White there are all of these Metallic paints:

An aside on that terminology:
- designo – rare, custom designed paints or upholsteries available from Mercedes on many models.
- manufaktur: colors from historical Mercedes-Benz models
- PA1: Special Order System through Mercedes-Benz that allows you to choose any paint or upholstery possible. This can take some time and does have associated costs.
I have never seen a G-Class in a color that didn’t look good…and I have seen South Seas Blue in person! The Rubellite Red G63 above was a special order that the owner took a chance on, without seeing it in person. Paired with the Macchiato interior, it looks elegant and impressive!
So, if you are already the type of person who likes to stand out in a crowd with a G-Class, you might also be the person who would like it to be a special color! The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC43 – Full Video Tour
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class received quite a few updates for 2020. This is what we call the mid-cycle refresh coming between the new body style, introduced in 2016, and the next body style thatcould arrive2022 or so.
The easiest way to tell the 2020 model from the exterior of the vehicle is the new shape of headlights, grille and tail lamps. Thestandard headlight is now the “spider-eyes” LED that is also standard on the C-Class. The upgraded Active Headlamps will look similar to the previous generation. There are also differences in the bumpers.
The interior of the vehicle hasmany updates as well including the center screen switching to a morehorizontal layout. The operating system is now MBUX or the “Hey Mercedes” system as many people refer to it. It features intuitive voice control, a touch screen and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The changes are subtle but bring the car right up to the latest technology.
The video in this post in a GLC43 SUV from my inventory in Brilliant Blue. It really highlights the great looks of the GLC and shows off some of the creative choices you can make to have your vehicle stand out from the crowd! The Saddle Brown interior is especially dramatic on this one.
There are several ways to get the GLC of your dreams. You can choose a vehicle from the dealership inventory. We try to stock the most popular colors and features. If I don’t have the one you want in stock we can trade with dealerships from all over the country to get you want you want quickly. Or, you can custom order a vehicle. Maybe youaren’t an off-the-rack buyer. That’s ok too. We can built it in our ordering system and it will arrive in the US about 90 days later. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class is Live for Build Your Own!
I know you have all been anxiously awaiting the “Build Your Own” feature for the 2020 GLS-Class to arrive! It’s here!Did you know you can save your builds and e-mail them to others? Have you been making your Holiday Wish List already? Hint, hint!

Please note: everything you find on the internet is not the TRUTH! Occasionally the Build Your Own Feature will have some errors that need to be corrected when we place the final order. It’s pretty good, but not 100% perfect. Don’t be surprised if a certain option requires another option to be valid. Sometimes it will show a color/trim/feature that has delayed availability. It is an excellent tool but not the final word!
There are also some items listed that cannot be ordered with the car but would be selected at the time of purchase. The Pre-Paid maintenance plans are one of those items. Other items would be dealer installedaccessories like all-weather floor mats –although they did just make it possible to order these with most models. It’s good to add in the things you know you’ll want but they won’t show up on the window sticker.
Also, a note about the payment estimator. It’s…not my favorite. The exact calculations are a little opaque but they generally leave out important variables like rates and taxes. It also assumes a hefty down payment that most people don’t notice right off the bat.It is best not to get one of those estimates into your head before getting an actual quote from a physical dealership. Just a tip.

Mercedes-Benz European Delivery in a C300 Coupe!
Another great European Delivery Experience! Alyson picked up her latest Mercedes-Benz via Euro Delivery and then went on a birthday road trip! Let’s start at the beginning.
Alyson’slease was ending and it was time to pick out her next Mercedes-Benz. She was kind of thinking about a trip to Europe to celebrate her birthday so we were able to combine the twoexperiences. She chose a gorgeous C300 coupe in Magno Matte Selenite.While the C300 sedan is not available for European Delivery (because they are mostly built in Tuscaloosa) the coupe and cabriolet still come from Germany! So, we ordered the car, completed the leasing paperwork and off she went!
After picking up her new car at the Kundencenter in Sindelfingen, Alyson planned a tour of castles and mountains through Germany, Austria, Italy and finishing in Nice, France. Luggage for two (including some unexpected gear to deal with a broken foot) were loaded into the car without issue. Her favorite part of the trip was driving through the mountains with her sporty new car and feeling out the capabilities.
The car caused quite a stir everywhere she went!The lines of the coupe are really highlighted by the matte paint and the ambient lighting on the interior is quite a show at night! Alyson said people wereliterally turningtheir heads to watch it drive by. They drove through small towns, on twisty mountain roads and intolarge cities without issue. Prague may have been the tightest squeeze but that is when you let the valet take over.
After her grand tour, Alyson left the car in Nice and came back to Atlanta.Seven weeks later the C300 has arrived! It feels so good to be reunited. Now the plan will be to get close to the end of the lease and then plananother adventure! Thanks for comingalong on Alyson’s birthday road trip!

Accident in a Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class – Atlanta Traffic
One of our clients was recently involved in a pretty serious accident on I-75 in Atlanta. This is a 10 lane highway and speeds are generally above 70 mph.Another vehicle cut into the HOV lane unexpectedly and it ended with a t-boned pick-up truck and a very big back-up on the highway. I often hear these stories from my clients but this one has pictures too! Everyone is fine.
Both passengers in the GLS are completely fine. The Pre-Safe features activated and they were held securely in their seats while struck by another vehicle. They were also very impressed with the braking system. It was firm and predictable the entire time, allowing them to stay straight in their lane and not cross into additional traffic. They had participated in the AMG Driving Academy a few years ago and knew to expect that type of performance but it was a relief to have it work in real life.
The GLS550 was still running after the accident and was driven onto to the tow truck! Theywerehappy that the air conditioning continued to run while they waiting for the wreckers to arrive as well. All four doors open and close easily. There was no intrusion at all into the passenger compartment of the car.
The GLS rode up on the side of the pick-up truck briefly and dropped back to the ground heavily. The suspension is fine, the wheels are undamaged. The seatbelts were locked tight at this point so they were jostled a little but not knocked around.
They immediately said to each other “This is why we drive a Mercedes-Benz.” They are currently at the dealership talking about their next one while they wait to find out what insurance is going to do. That is a happy ending to a scary story! #thebestornothing

The End of the Month – Quirks of Car Sales
Today is theEnd of the Month at the dealership! Does that sound crazy?On the calendar it is September 3rd, but in practice it is August 34th. This comes up a couple of times a yearand I thought it might be worth explaining itto those of you not in the car business. I’m sure every industry has some quirks that need explaining!
Not every dealership or manufacturer has the same rules, but for Mercedes-Benz and my dealership the month cannot end on a Saturday. It also cannot end on a holiday. So, the 31st fell on Saturday, and then Monday was a holiday, so the first time we couldend the month is today, Tuesday the 3rd. The main reason is that we work with banks to secure financing and we need to be able to finalize deals when the banks are open.
Generally our sales programs, incentives and residual values change from month to month. The changes could be small or largeand we do not know in advance what is coming for the following month. Deals we do today are based on the August programs. Tomorrow, September 4th, will be the first day we are using the new programs for September.
You do not have to wait for the end of the month to get a deal on a car! The end of the month can be an exciting time to buy a car because it is busier in the showroom but we do not have more incentives or enticements than we had earlier in the month. We have sales objectives to achieve every day!In fact, you might be better off earlier in the month when itisn’t so busy andthere is less pressure to make a decision. The best deal is always a car you love!
Now you know – The End of the Month is not always the last day of the month!

Coming Soon – Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class, EQC, New GLS-Class
Happy New Year! I know it is not even September but with all of the new 2020 models arriving from Mercedes-Benz it seems like the future! We have already received the resigned GLE-Class,the refreshed GLC-Class and the 2020 E350.
Wehave quite a few models coming in the new year that you might not be familiar with just yet. In fact, there might be a few I am not totally familiar with just yet! The Future Models section at www.mbusa.com is a good place to start.
GLB
Our SUV line-up has grown substantially over the years. The G-Class has been around since the 70’s but the first modern luxury SUV was the ML (now GLE)for 1997. Since then we have added alarger SUV, the GLS-Class, and two smaller models, the GLA-Class and GLC-Class. Well, it turns out there was still a little room and the GLB-Class is coming for 2020!I haven’t seen it in person yet but it seems to have the interior technology from the new A-Class and a exterior with a few more corners than all of the other SUVs. That is good news for the square SUV fans!
EQC
This will be the first vehicle in the EQ sub-brand from Mercedes-Benz. It looksto be approximately GLC-sized but with a full electricdrivesystem and impressive new technology. It is very powerful, charges quickly and will be a great option for customerslooking for full electric capability.
GLS-Class
The all-new GLS-Class should arrive late 2019. It is a littlelarger, a lot more luxurious and now available with Captain’s Chairs! People have been asking for captains chairs since the beginning of time! We have already started our order list for the GLS450, GLS580 and the yet-to-be-announced AMG variant. Don’t wait! The vehicle is currently being built and there might be a stampede when it is released to the dealership!

2019 vs 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 Comparison Video
The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class was introduced in 2016 as a replacement for the outgoing GLK-Class. It has been an incredibly popular SUV for us! It is not too big, not too small and feels very luxurious. The styling has been less polarizing than the more square GLK. Compared to other vehicles at this price point it seems more spacious, more elegant and much smoother. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 has arrived with a mid-cycle refresh. These are just a few changes to the current body style to keep it fresh and modern. It should stay just about the same until it is due for a complete redesign in 2022 or so.
I found a 2019 to park next to it to visually demonstrate the differences. It’s easy to read the list of changed but it doesn’t really come together for me until I can see them together. I think a few people will notice the updated exterior elements but the deciding factor will be the technology on the inside. Take a look at the head lamps and grille shape to see the exterior changes. On the inside we have updated to the new MBUX system with Hey Mercedes voice control and the touch screen.
- Smartphone Integration (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto) becomes standard
- New M264 2.0L Inline-4 Turbocharged Engine with power output increase +14hp to 255 hp
- LED Headlamps & Taillamps become standard
- Updated steering wheel w/ haptic feedback touchpads and cruise control buttons
- Next-Generation Infotainment System "MBUX" now standard incl. "Hey Mercedes"

In other SUV news, the Mercedes-Benz GLB is due late this year. This will be bigger than the GLA, smaller than the GLC and have a third row option. From the images I have seen it is also a little more square than any of our other offerings. If you really loved the old GLK, the GLB might be the SUV for you!

Mercedes-Benz European Delivery Program – E450, CLS53 and E63 Wagon!
It was a busy spring on my European Delivery calendar! I had three clients picking up within a month of each other and every one of themmade it adifferent experience. Two of the cars made it back to the dealership this week so it seemed like a good time to share.
1 – E450 Cabriolet – Roadtrip
The gorgeous Rubellite Red E450 with Red top and Titian Red dashboard was the first car to make it back to the dealership. These folks planned a trip similar to my first European Delivery experience. It was go-go-go from the moment they landed. They picked up the car in the delivery center in Sindelfingen and then hit the road. They did 1500 miles in about 10 days and visited several countries!
They reportedthat it was much easier to drive in Germany and Italy then they had expected and had no issues with parking.Even with a cabriolet they were able to take all of their gear and ride in comfort.
2 – CLS53 – Stopover
This lovely couple already had a grand European adventure planned including a few days in Rome and a river boat cruise. They were able to squeeze in the pick-up of their CLS53 at the Center of Excellence in Sindelfingen at the start of their trip. They enjoyed the excellent hospitality, tour of the factory and dramatic unveiling of their new car. They just drove it a few miles that day and dropped it off but it was still a memorable experience!
3 – E63 AMG – Extended Adventure
Can you imagine a better vehicle for an extended tour of Europe than the E63 wagon? This client had a lot of friends and family to visit over the course of a month and tied that together with the delivery of his new Lunar Blue E63! He was able to travel at his own pace, take all his gear and enjoy some autobahn time in the new car! This car will arrive in Atlanta in a few weeks and he plans to fly in to take another long road trip home to Colorado!
There is no right or wrong way to experience the European Delivery Program! I can tell you how I have done it, how others have done it and help you customize the experience for yourself. 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 and GLE450 with Third Row Seating
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is a complete redesign and is due to arrive in the showroom this week! This has been a highly anticipated redesign for us. I was lucky to get to go to a pre-release training in Jacksonville last week and this video is from that training. I spent the day with our trainers learning the new MBUX technology as well as an hour driving the GLE450 on the road. It is quieter, more luxurious and very advanced technologically!
My first impressions are that it is an evolution, not a revolution on the outside. The headlights and taillights are modern, mirroring the new A-Class and CLS-Class. The vehicle is 4.5″ longer, including 3″ on the wheelbase. This give the second row passengers quite a bit of leg room. The interior is where the major upgrades have occurred. The new dashboard layout is beautiful and gives it an entirely fresh appearance. The MBUX system (which isMercedes speak for the nav/radio/Bluetooth/voicesystems) in intuitive andvery cool!
There are two models for the 2020 Model Year. The GLE350 4matic with a 4-cylinder engine and a GLE450 4matic with the inline-6 will both be available at launch.A 2WD GLE350 will be available later. There will be no AMG variants for the 2020 model year but I am sure they will turn up for 2021. No word on 43/53/63 availability.
Pricing will be similar to GLEs from previous model years. We have been playing around with different combinations and I am getting GLE350s in the $59-$62,000 range and GLE450s in the $68-$75,000 range. Of course there are outliers! Wait until you see my $95,000 GLE450 with every option!
This GLE is also a very good preview for the redesigned GLS-Class that we expect to see before the end of 2019. Having a third row option in the GLE will be nice but it will not replace the utility of the full size GLS and the additional space that allows.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan – A220
The all-new 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is due to arrive very soon! You can see lots of details at MBUSA.com. We do not yet have a firm launch date but it has bee suggested as “1st Quarter” and “Early 2019.”
I am thinking the A-Class will be an excellent vehicle for folks whodon’t love the increased size of the C-Class butwant something a little more traditional than the CLA. The new technology has been a major focus of the pre-launch campaign but is not the only strength of the A-Class. They styling isvery much like the new CLS-Class, there are lots of great wheel options andit should be very efficient. I think there is something for everyone to love!

Rally North America – 2019 Wagon Roadtrip in the E63!
This summer I will be taking the wagon on a roadtrip with Rally North America through New England! This is a scavenger hunt style rally with checkpoints and track visits along the way. A requirement of participation is raising money for charity.This year the charity is Camp Sunshine,a retreat for children with life threatening illnesses and their families. It will be a great trip for a worthy cause.

There are still a few opening if you want to sign up! I think the wagon is going to look fantastic with racing stripes and numbers. I went with the classic #722 for this event. If you remember, the C43 AMG went for a classic Bumblebee look with #43.

Compare the 4-Door Coupes: 2019 GT63S and the CLS450!
I just happened to have these two cars on the lot at the same time and felt like they deserved to be seen together. I often can’t tell the size or scale of a vehicle when it is featured by itself. Also, having two 4-Door coupes in our line-up is bound to confuse the issue so let’s put them together and see how different they really are!
The 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT63S is the Performance Car. This is a 630 horsepower monster with a 3/1 second 0-60 estimate. It is also quite a looker! This particular car features the carbon ceramic brakes, race seats and 21″ cross-spoke wheels. The vehicle will be available in the GT53, GT63 and GT63S variants. It will be a direct competitor to the Porsche Panamera and I think it will be bringing a lot of traffic to the showroom!
The 2019 CLS-Class is an evolution of the 4-Door coupe we pioneered with the original CLS in 2006. The CLS460 is an Inline 6 cylinder with EQ boost and there will also be a CLS53 AMG. This car is more of the comfort car of the two. It is a little cushier, the cockpit is a little more open and it is tuned to be a little smoother.
I think they look very different in person. The GT63 looks beefy. The fastback design is very attractive and the hood is both wide and tall. The CLS is actually a touch more conservative which is not a normal thing to say about the CLS! I compared it to an E-Class in a previous video and it looked quite aggressive. Parked side-by-side they look like family, but definitely different.
Both cars are expected to arrive in the US “4th Quarter.” That is a vague amount of time that indicates they hope to get them out before the end of the year. I hope it is soon!

We Got a Used X6 and GLE450 in the Same Color on the Same Day!
The BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class coupe are clearly competitors. They are niche vehicles and generally fill the “I want an SUV but I don’t want it to look like a kid-taxi” space. We happened to get a set of similar cars on the same day and I couldn’t resist filming them together.
These are both pre-owned cars so they do not have the latest styling, tech or engines. However, as a side-by-side comparison I think they work!

In short, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are produced at many locations around the world. Factories are often added to serve the needs or a particular model or market. The Tuscaloosa factory is the second largest exporter of vehicles from the US! MBUSA is also bringing Sprinter production to South Carolina. In the past we have reassembled the Sprinters in the US but not manufactured them here. The new factory will allow for a much faster delivery timeline of our vans.
Production itself in a marvel! I have been to severalMercedes-Benz factories and it is amazing to see both the robot assembly lines and the ones still done by people. I have seen a giant robot arm swing a dashboard through a door opening with just 2mm to spare. They said it couldn’t be done by human hands!I have seen an AMG engine builder hand assemble a V8piece bypiece in a quiet factory in Affalterbach.
The logisticsof building these German engineered cars around the world and shippingto the dealerships by ship, train and transporter is mind boggling!

2019 Mercedes-Benz E300, E400, E53 and E63
Model Year 2019 is just around the corner! Mercedes-Benz is beginning to firm up the offerings of engines and options and has recently announce the E-Class.
E300, E400, E53 and E63 will be the choices for the sedan. We had heard rumor of an E350 but that has been canceled. If you ordered an E350 with your dealer you need to revise your order info!
From MBUSA: For MY19, the E-Class Sedan will continue with the 2.0L inline-4 cylinder E300, and the previously announced E350 Sedan will not be available.
Now you know!

Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door – GT63
Today was the world premiere of the all new 4-door variant of the AMG GT at the Geneva International Motor Show. This model expands on the existing AMGGT line up and gives us the firstvehicle exclusively designed by AMG with 4 seats!You have been seeing spy shots of this vehicle for months and ithas been referred to as the GT4 or4-door GT, and now the GT63 seems to be the name.
Yes, you should get on the order list immediately! There is definitely going to be a waiting list when it arrives late this year! I think that a lot of CLS drivers will see this as a possible upgrade from their current vehicle. I also expect to see a huge spike in my Porsche Panamera trade-ins. Huge.
No, we do not have the base pricing or the options list yet. I would expect it to be similar to the current GT models in colors and equipment possibilities. The info I do have shows that there will be three variants with escalating horsepower. I’m hoping that there will be an absolutely jaw dropping launch edition!
No, this is not a replacement for the CLS-Class. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS will be arriving this year as a complete redesign. It will be available in the CLS450, CLS450 4matic and the CLS53. While the CLS and the new 4-door GT will both be 4-door coupe in styling they will likely feel very different. In the same way that the GT Roadster and the SL63 AMG appeal to different buyers, the CLS and the 4-door GT will also be very different.
Yes, it is absolutely gorgeous and the designers have outdone themselves yet again! I think the GT is certainly winning the Geneva Motor Show and I am sure it will be winning in the showrooms too!

How to tell Mercedes-Benz Sedans Apart!
Over the last few years our core line-up of sedans has developed a “common design language.” This is generally a good thing as it elevates the appearance of all of the sedans and strengthens the Mercedes-Benz family resemblance.
However, for the average person that means it is harder and harder to tell the classes apart! I will admit that from a distance or while the car is moving even I can have trouble telling one from the other.Throwing in something tricky like a Luxury E-Class or a C43 can make it even more challenging!
Here is the secret:
The C-Class, the smallest sedan, has one eyebrow in the headlight. The medium-sized E-Class has two and the flagship S-Class has three. Pretty easy to tell them apart now, right? So easy!
A similar system is employedfor the tail lamps too but from the back of the car you usually have the benefit of badging to help you identifywhich vehicle you are seeing. But be careful! There is an option from the factory todelete badgingand some customers choose to debadge cars after the fact as well. You’d hate to be caught out! And what about those very bad Mercedes-Benz owners who add a fake badge to the car? Now you’ll know that that E63 is really a C-Class!
Now, there are exceptions. This only works since the 2018 S-Class received a facelift with the new 3-stripe headlamps. Also, the most basic C-Classes can have halogen headlights with no eyebrows at all. The SUVs and the coupes don’t participate in this easy to decipher head lamp system.
Next time you seeMercedes-Benzin a parking lot you’ll be able to casually say “That’s an E-Class” without having to walk to the back to look at the badging!Consider yourself a Mercedes-Benz expert!
