The 2012 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season has started incredibly well for the Mercedes-Benz team, with considerable leads in all three categories of the competition, namely the constructors, drivers, and teams championships. The Mercedes-Benz drivers competing this weekend are all prepped up and excited for the prospects of the team at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.

"Everything about our new DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé is first-class, and it has shown itself to be fast on all types of track," said Gary Paffett, who has won two of the first three races this year and is in the lead in the drivers championship. "In Spielberg, though, we're expecting some new challenges. The circuit has a very different character to Brands Hatch where we raced a fortnight ago."

Jamie Green, currently fourth place in the drivers championship, also chimed in. "So far this year, the field has been evenly matched on all types of track, and I'm expecting it to be very tight in Spielberg too."

David Coulthard, racing for the Mucke Motorsport team under Mercedes-Benz, is very familiar with the track because he got an F1 victory here in 2001 when he was still racing for McLaren-Mercedes. "Spielberg is a fantastic circuit in a beautiful part of Austria. From a driver's perspective, the track is hugely enjoyable, but it's quite difficult to extract every last ounce of performance from the car."

Mercedes-Benz Spain signed a three-year partnership with supply chain management firm CEVA Logistics. The deal will secure the services of CEVA Logistics to manage spare part shipments.

CEVA Logistics is one of the leading global firms when it comes to managing supply chains. The company will be tasked to collect spare parts and take charge of the consolidation and distribution of those parts straight to the various Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the dealer network that is comprised of the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, and Ceuta and Melilla, which are Spanish cities in North Africa.

The deal involves CEVA’s Less-than-Container Load Oceanfreight service, and CEVA will be shipping 2,000 orders. That translates to somewhere around 1,500 tons each year. The deal provides Mercedes-Benz Spain with the best value for money balanced with efficiency of delivery times.

"Logistics is a critical aspect for every automotive company," said Andres Orejon Fraile, Mercedes-Benz Spain’s Spare Parts Director. "Cost reductions, improvements in delivery times and shipment frequency are key factors for the success of our Customer Service Policy. Only a capable provider that is able to satisfy our expectations in terms of time and cost can have our confidence."

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class hatchback has just set the record for a crash test score for the Australasian New Car Assessment Program, or ANCAP for short. The test’s highest possible score is 37, and the B-Class garnered a near-perfect 36.78―quite a bit higher than the previous best of 36.59 scored by Toyota Aurion.

Now, the B-Class joins the elite company of other ANCAP 5-star rating scorers: the Aurion, Ford Fiesta, Lexus CT200, Toyota Prius, and Volkswagen Polo. ANCAP, established in 1993, is the body responsible for giving out safety ratings for new vehicle models in terms of their front and side impact protection, ratings that cover Australia as well as New Zealand.

According to ANCAP, the unprecedented score for the B-Class just shows how its safety features are "ahead of its time." The rating covers the entire range of B-Class models, which are set to be released in New Zealand in a few weeks.

The B-Class scored 15.78 out of 16 for the front collision impact tests and a perfect 16 of 16 for the side impact tests. The vehicle was awarded 5 bonus points because of exceptional pole test results as well as for outstanding seatbelt reminders.

The 2012 Monaco Grand Prix ended well enough for the Mercedes AMG Petronas team, with Nico Rosberg finishing on the podium in front of his home crowd. However, qualifying pacesetter Michael Schumacher wasn’t able to finish the race after new problems surfaced with his car.

Rosberg was ecstatic. "It’s a fantastic feeling to be on the podium at my home race in Monaco today in front of all my family and friends. The team have done a really good job this weekend to get the car working so well.

"Although we thought this track would suit our car, it’s been better than we expected. I had a clean start but Mark drove a very controlled race today. I could keep in touch with him but we all know how difficult it is to overtake around the streets here and there just wasn’t a way past." True enough, the top six finishers were all within 3.1 seconds of each other.

Schumacher, on the other hand, maintained that his incident at the start with Romain Grosjean was unrelated to the fuel pressure problems that surfaced in the latter laps of the race. He described it as "doubly disappointing" but remained hopeful for the next race.

"I will take the boost from the high points of this weekend with me to Canada. The track should suit us and I’m hoping to have a normal, clean race."

Another race, another mixed finish for Mercedes AMG Petronas. The 2012 Monaco Grand Prix ended with Red Bull’s Mark Webber on top, followed by Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Michael Schumacher, who led everyone else in the qualifying sessions making a five-place grid penalty seem negligible, ended his Monte Carlo campaign with a thud after retiring in lap 65.

It was yet another disappointing race for Schumacher, who was not able to finish after fuel pressure problems in his car caused the German to cut his stint short. There had been radio chatter picked up where Schumacher had been complaining of an unknown issue with the car as far back as lap 60, but the pit crew dismissed it and said it was not a critical issue.

By lap 62, it was clear that Schumi was losing pace and he didn’t even give a fight when Toro Rosso’s Jean-Eric Vergne passed by him for P7 at the time.

There are now six different winners in the first 6 races of the 2012 Formula One season. So far, Alonso has been the most consistent of the bunch, which is why he is now in the lead of the drivers’ championship with 76 total points. Nico Rosberg leaps to fifth with a total of 59 points so far this season.

After his stellar performance in qualifying for this year’s edition of the Monaco Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher expressed that his desire to pay Mercedes back figured in his determination to gain a good qualifying result even with a 5-place penalty knocking him back to P6 once the actual race starts.

"I want to pay back to Mercedes for all the trust they've put in me," said the 43-year old 8-time Formula One champ, who has struggled all season long but looks to make a big splash at one of the most anticipated races of every F1 season. "Let's hope it is payback time on Sunday afternoon."

When asked about his mindset heading into qualifying, Schumacher dismissed any notions of him viewing the penalty as a major setback. He said he entered Saturday already thinking of starting at P6, showing some confidence not only in himself but also in the MGP W03 that has so far been disappointing this season.

"I already said before I came here that I will start from P6, so it was clear for me that I would clock the pole time!" Schumacher added: "I don't chew on things that I cannot change – and the five places were an unchangeable reality."

That’s certainly something coming from a man who has won a lot of races. Who knows―maybe we’ll see a Schumacher podium today. Of course, don’t forget to check Nico Rosberg, who will start at P2.

With the 5-place penalty he was handed for an incident at the previous race, we said Michael Schumacher had to have a good showing at the qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix, right? Well, the 8-time Formula One champion exceeded everyone’s expectations by finishing at the top of the pack with 1:14:301 in Q3, pushing his Mercedes AMG Petronas MGP W03 hard to outpace everyone else.

Schumi will start at P6 on the grid tomorrow after the penalty is applied. Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing finished second in qualifying and will subsequently hold pole position at the race. Schumi’s Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg is at P2, followed by McLaren Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, Lotus’ Romain Grosjean, and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.

Rounding out the first 10 on the grid are Ferrari’s Felipe Massa at P7, Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen, Webber’s teammate Sebastian Vettel, and Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg. Pastor Maldonado of Williams would have started at P9, but was subsequently issued a 10-place penalty for an incident with Sergio Perez of Sauber during the Saturday practice.

We highly doubt that Saturday’s contact between Maldonado and Perez will be the last in Monaco this year. The Monaco GP has always been a fan favorite and generally a very exciting race―and you can rest assured that BenzInsider will give you a recap of the action once the dust settles and the winner is crowned. ESWE Verkehrsgesellschaft was the proud recipient of 3 Mercedes-Benz Citaro Euro VI buses―the first production units of the clean bus that rolled off the plant and straight into operation. The transport company based in Wiesbaden, Germany took the delivery of the buses in a handover ceremony that was even attended by Wiesbaden mayor Helmut Muller.

It’s no secret that the Citaro Euro VI is perhaps the cleanest bus model out on the market right now, which is why transport companies are lining up to get their hands on these tech wonders. The bus relies on an elaborate new emission control system to help it meet the strict emissions standards of Euro VI, which is going to be in effect by 2014. That puts the Citaro Euro VI ahead of the pack.

Great care has been made to make sure that the bus was able to retain its weight from the Citaro G series even with the added emissions equipment. Each one will be powered by the 360 horsepower Mercedes-Benz OM 470 engines.

"We take our responsibility towards both people and the environment extremely seriously," said ESWE Chairman of the Board Uwe Cramer. "Buses meeting the highest possible emission standard play a significant role in this."

ESWE has been ordering Mercedes-Benz buses for some time now, and these latest acquisitions will help boost its fleet. Two more units are due within the next couple of days.

There’s the 10.7-liter 6-cylinder OM 470 that has already been tweaked to provide optimized performance and fuel efficiency figures. It’s good for 428 horsepower with a max torque of 2,100 Nm―so even with the fuel efficiency, the power output is still considerable.
