Feel that your CLS63 AMG is too portly to give those BMW M5s the spanking they deserve? Tuning firm MKB has the package that ought to cure those blues.

Using as its base the 5.5 liter twin turbocharged V8 that already belts out around 560 horsepower, MKB works its tuning magic to give AMG's workhorse an additional 140 horsepower, to give the CLS 63 AMG an output of 700 horsepower. Torque output gets a similar hefty increase, from 590 lb-ft to almost 740 lb-ft. With these kinds of figures, it's not surprising that the four-door coupe sprints to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds. A very respectable time for a heavy car like the CLS. Makes you wonder though how much punishment the drivetrain can take.

If you can keep yourself from mashing the throttle in the lower gears however, the same power output will give you a top speed of more than 210 mph, or 340 km/h. This performance can only be approached with a delimited top speed and special tires. In practice, MKB moves the speed limiter from the standard 155 mph to 186 mph. Realistically, there are only a few place left to reach those kinds of velocities. It would give the MKB-tuned CLS 63 owner a lot of satisfaction though to see jaws drop when they see what kind of rapid transport said CLS owner has at his disposal.

The interior of a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was recently given an enhancement by Vilner. The interior specialist from Bulgaria gave this luxurious supercar the best leather available in the market that simply added to its already exclusive reputation.

Aside from the leather interior, the steering wheel of the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG was given an Alcantara covering, giving it a more exquisite feel. Another modification included the addition of a custom-made pocket in between the seats. The specially-designed pocket appeared exceptionally-made that was suitably-designed for the interior design of the car. Aside from these enhancements, everything else remained the same.

This particular Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG also received a modified trunk that featured two tones of Alcantara upholstery. The result made it one of the best works that Vilner produced so far. The improved trunk of the car also shows the logo of AMG and Vilner embroidered at the center, which gave it a more exquisite appearance.

Michael Bock, General Manager of the Mercedes-Benz Museum and Head of Mercedes-Benz Classic has reported that around 722,000 people visited the Mercedes-Benz Museum in 2012. Of this number, around 30 percent were visitors from 170 other countries. In recent years the number of international visitors has steadily increased: while only 15% of visitors in 2009 came from other countries, this figure has now more than doubled to 35%. More than that, Herr Bock says that around 4.9 million people have passed through the doors of the museum since it opened its doors in 2011.

Part of the increase in 2012 could be attributed to Mercedes' celebration of 60 years for the Mercedes SL. During this period, the museum exhibited the full model series spanning six decades in the same room for the first time. This exhibition was attended by over 200,000 enthusiastic visitors during its course, where the legendary SL sports car was prominently displayed. Mr. Bock further adds that “The Mercedes-Benz Museum has long been a fixture for German tourists. In an international survey by the German Centre for Tourism, the Mercedes-Benz Museum was the only automobile museum to be voted amongst the Top 50 tourist attractions in Germany.”

In 2013, the Mercedes-Benz Museum will be holding its first Star Nights in the New Year from 26 February to 10 March 2013 � with top-chefs Mario Corti of Restaurant Luce d’Oro at Schloss Elmau and Derry Clarke, chef-de-cuisine at the Dublin gourmet restaurant l’Ecrivain showcasing their skills. Says Mr. Bock, “Coinciding with the market launch of the new S-Class, we will be illustrating the long history of this model series with a special exhibition from 4 June to 22 September 2013. For decades the flagship Mercedes-Benz model has set standards for the brand in terms of luxury, comfort and safety. And with the Week of Helpers (25 to 30 June 2013), one of the many highlights for the coming Museum summer in 2013 is already scheduled.”

W205 Drivetrain Details Emerge  阅读原文»

Slated for public scrutiny at the next Geneva Motor Show, the new W205 C-Class looks to be a larger car, based on the latest details available from Mercedes-Benz. At 4.7 meters long, it will be 100 mm longer, with 80 mm of that extra length going into the wheelbase itself. In addition, the W205 will be wider at 1.8 meters, which will translate to significantly more interior room. Almost like a small E-Class?

Concurrent with the physical makeover is the replacement of the front suspension to a dual-wishbone layout, the better to tune the handling of the M-battling AMG variants that are sure to follow. At the rear, Mercedes will retain a multilink setup, albeit significantly revised. One of the first models to use the new MRA platform, the 2014 C-Class will weigh in at less than 1,400 kilos, at least for the entry-level C160. In terms of powerplants, Mercedes will be mounting the engines longitudinally, instead of the transverse layout found on its CLA platform vehicles. Engine range will start with a 184 horsepower gasoline turbo four up to a range topping V6 with twin turbos and 330 horsepower. Diesel options will come in four flavors, from the 2.1-liter 120 hp turbodiesel to one with 220 horsepower. All these engines will be mated to one of two transmissions – a manual 6-speed and a 7-speed automatic. A 9-speed is reportedly in development, as is an electric hybrid which will make its appearance a couple of years down the line.

Of course, what Mercedes enthusiasts will really be interested in are the AMG variants, which would be thumping turbocharged V8s. 400-500 horsepower wouldn't be unreasonable expectations, and a 4Matic drivetrain is a very real possibility.

After revealing the freshened up E-Class sedan and wagon, Mercedes has removed the wraps off the coupe and cabriolet versions. Although the public will see these models at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, actual showroom models will be available only after a few more months.

Styling cues taken from the sedan are aplenty, although observers will note that the fat rear haunches are reminiscent of the older E-Class. The front end, however, is radically fresh, almost looking like a concept car instead of one destined for the showroom. Mercedes' designers and engineers must have worked long and hard to to achieve this look and yet retain the marque's admirable safety standards. Mercedes' unique use of LEDs for the headlights reminds us of the quad headlights of previous models. It's a refreshing look, compared to the hockey sticks in previous cars that were derided by many.

Inside, Mercedes designers have incorporated the Direct Select gearshift lever into the steering wheel, removing the console-mounted one. A small change, but noticeable in the way the interior looks. Additional cabriolet-specific details include an acoustic soft top and automatically-deployed wind deflectors. Together, these keep noise intrusion to new levels of low.

The coupe and cabriolet will keep the previous models' designations, meaning an E350 and E550 model. In contrast, the sedan will have hybrid and frugal four-bangers. By not making these powerplants available in the coupe and cabriolet, Mercedes has managed to give these models an extra measure of exclusivity.The coupe will also be available as a 4-Matic. In the E550, this should be more than enough to leave those pesky Audis and Bimmers in any weather.

As part of the plan of the luxurious car brand Mercedes-Benz to compete with Bentley Continental GTC and Rolls-Royce Ghost, the car company will release the new S-class with a more splendid stature.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class coupe will replace the Mercedes CL. The new look given to the S-Class is in line with feedbacks from customers that the present models are lacking in terms of visual projection as they were compared to their limousine competitors.

According to the design sources of the luxury car, the new S-Class vehicle will present a more masculine appearance and has been expanded to 5 models having 3 differentbody styles carrying the same basic stylingand wheelbase lengths.

Make way for the world debut of the new Mercedes S-Class at the Frankfurt motor show. At present, the luxury brand car is forecasting that the standard and long-wheel base versions of the S-Class will be shown to the public in September 2013.

What a fun test! I’ve never had anyone directly comparing these two models but anything that draws attention to our great wagon is fantastic! You can create your own comparisons at the MBUSA site.

“Many kids grow up with minivans and sedans, but the lucky ones spend time riding in the third-row jump seat of an E-Class wagon. The seats, which are located in the cargo area and face backward, provide a cocoon-like environment where the rear hatch window gives a unique outside view.”

“On the other hand, the GL’s more conventional third row seems spacious and welcoming enough for passengers as tall as Big Bird.”

“And while the GL450 provides a higher seating position, visibility is slightly better in the E350 wagon, making it much easier to maneuver around texting tweens in a mall parking lot or to stay within SoCal’s narrow freeway lanes.”

“Not only is the GL surprisingly fast, but it sounds quite good, too — drive with the windows and sunroof open and the combination of the deep exhaust growl and faint turbo whine provides a strangely entertaining sense that you’re driving a refined city bus.”

The official website of Mercedes-Benz USA stated that one of their vehicles is about to be bestowed another award. Based on the report, the second-generation GL-Class SUV of Mercedes-Benz bagged the "Best of the Best" award from AutoWeek magazine under its truck group. The GL-Class beat the other contenders of this category like the Acura RDX, Infiniti JX35, Ford Escape and Mazda CX-5.

Steve Cannon, president and CEO of MB USA, said that they are extremely honored to get the award. He added that beating the competition was mainly due to the impressive performance, features and functionality of their product especially with U.S. customers.

Mercedes-Benz Owners Beware, Holiday Thefts are High During Halloween and New Year  阅读原文»

Based on a report published by the National Insurance Crime Bureau, car thieves are at their busiest during Halloween and New Year. Around 2,328 cases of vehicle theft were recorded during the Halloween of 2011. Next to this is New Year with around 2,286 similar incidents. However, Christmas and Thanksgiving are among the lowest holiday thefts with only 1,347 and 1,526 cases respectively.

No explanations were provided by the report though as the details were merely statistics. However, one possible explanation is that there are a lot of parties going on during these dates. According to The Car Connection website, this may be due to the fact that these holidays are not exactly more family-inclined like that of Christmas and Thanksgiving. People tend to go out of their houses and drive somewhere else, cruising on unfamiliar neighborhoods which exposes them to crime. Alcohol could also play a huge factor in lowering the perception of the car owner.

Well, we are not saying that you should avoid partying during these times. This is only a reminder to keep more aware during these periods.

Renown Auto Style, an automotive development company based in California, has given the Mercedes-Benz SL (R230) a new wide body kit.

The company, which is widely known for creating customized kits for Lamborghini models, has given the older model of the SL-Class some customizations of its own.

The new body kit has given the Mercedes-Benz SL (R230) an extra ten inches in width when compared to the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series. It is also wider by one inch compared to the Murcielago. The kit gives the car a new hood, front fenders and bumpers, trunk spats, side skirts, diffuser, rear bumper, full rear panels, a brand new water tank, and wheel well liners.

A number of components for the Mercedes-Benz SL (R230) will also have carbon fiber options. These components include the front lip, side skirts, light bar, wing, skirt vents and bumper vents. A vacuum bagged fiber-reinforced plastic cloth manufactured using the epoxy resin system will be used for the body components of the vehicle.

All of the components will be produced in the United States. The Lifetime Renown Protection Plan will allow users to replace damage components at half its MSRP, according to Renown Auto Style.
