It was a busy spring on my European Delivery calendar! I had three clients picking up within a month of each other and every one of themmade it adifferent experience. Two of the cars made it back to the dealership this week so it seemed like a good time to share.

1 – E450 Cabriolet – Roadtrip

The gorgeous Rubellite Red E450 with Red top and Titian Red dashboard was the first car to make it back to the dealership. These folks planned a trip similar to my first European Delivery experience. It was go-go-go from the moment they landed. They picked up the car in the delivery center in Sindelfingen and then hit the road. They did 1500 miles in about 10 days and visited several countries!

They reportedthat it was much easier to drive in Germany and Italy then they had expected and had no issues with parking.Even with a cabriolet they were able to take all of their gear and ride in comfort.

2 – CLS53 – Stopover

This lovely couple already had a grand European adventure planned including a few days in Rome and a river boat cruise. They were able to squeeze in the pick-up of their CLS53 at the Center of Excellence in Sindelfingen at the start of their trip. They enjoyed the excellent hospitality, tour of the factory and dramatic unveiling of their new car. They just drove it a few miles that day and dropped it off but it was still a memorable experience!

3 – E63 AMG – Extended Adventure

Can you imagine a better vehicle for an extended tour of Europe than the E63 wagon? This client had a lot of friends and family to visit over the course of a month and tied that together with the delivery of his new Lunar Blue E63! He was able to travel at his own pace, take all his gear and enjoy some autobahn time in the new car! This car will arrive in Atlanta in a few weeks and he plans to fly in to take another long road trip home to Colorado!

There is no right or wrong way to experience the European Delivery Program! I can tell you how I have done it, how others have done it and help you customize the experience for yourself. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is a complete redesign and is due to arrive in the showroom this week! This has been a highly anticipated redesign for us. I was lucky to get to go to a pre-release training in Jacksonville last week and this video is from that training. I spent the day with our trainers learning the new MBUX technology as well as an hour driving the GLE450 on the road. It is quieter, more luxurious and very advanced technologically!

My first impressions are that it is an evolution, not a revolution on the outside. The headlights and taillights are modern, mirroring the new A-Class and CLS-Class. The vehicle is 4.5″ longer, including 3″ on the wheelbase. This give the second row passengers quite a bit of leg room. The interior is where the major upgrades have occurred. The new dashboard layout is beautiful and gives it an entirely fresh appearance. The MBUX system (which isMercedes speak for the nav/radio/Bluetooth/voicesystems) in intuitive andvery cool!

There are two models for the 2020 Model Year. The GLE350 4matic with a 4-cylinder engine and a GLE450 4matic with the inline-6 will both be available at launch.A 2WD GLE350 will be available later. There will be no AMG variants for the 2020 model year but I am sure they will turn up for 2021. No word on 43/53/63 availability.

Pricing will be similar to GLEs from previous model years. We have been playing around with different combinations and I am getting GLE350s in the $59-$62,000 range and GLE450s in the $68-$75,000 range. Of course there are outliers! Wait until you see my $95,000 GLE450 with every option!

This GLE is also a very good preview for the redesigned GLS-Class that we expect to see before the end of 2019. Having a third row option in the GLE will be nice but it will not replace the utility of the full size GLS and the additional space that allows.

The all-new 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is due to arrive very soon! You can see lots of details at MBUSA.com. We do not yet have a firm launch date but it has bee suggested as “1st Quarter” and “Early 2019.”

I am thinking the A-Class will be an excellent vehicle for folks whodon’t love the increased size of the C-Class butwant something a little more traditional than the CLA. The new technology has been a major focus of the pre-launch campaign but is not the only strength of the A-Class. They styling isvery much like the new CLS-Class, there are lots of great wheel options andit should be very efficient. I think there is something for everyone to love!

Today, we are pleased to announce the MSRP for the All-New 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan.

The A-Class Sedan introduces the game-changing new infotainment system called MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). Featuring a completely new user interface, natural speech recognition, touchscreen capabilities and a new Touchpad, MBUX represents a powerful user experience that also incorporates artificial intelligence to learn your habits over time and automatically adapt to changes in patterns of behavior.

The A 220 will start at an MSRP of $32,500, while the A220 4MATIC will start at $34,500.

The A 220 and A 220 4MATIC both feature a 2.0L inline-4 turbocharged engine that produces 188 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. This powerful and fuel efficient power plant is mated to a 7G-DCT dual-clutch transmission. The extensive standard equipment for the A 220 and A 220 4MATIC includes a Panorama roof and the intuitively-operated MBUX multimedia system with intelligent Voice Control. The in-car experience welcomes a new era of connectivity with standard Smartphone Integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a high-resolution widescreen cockpit concept with a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and 7.0-inch touchscreen multimedia display. This summer I will be taking the wagon on a roadtrip with Rally North America through New England! This is a scavenger hunt style rally with checkpoints and track visits along the way. A requirement of participation is raising money for charity.This year the charity is Camp Sunshine,a retreat for children with life threatening illnesses and their families. It will be a great trip for a worthy cause.

If you would like to know more about the Rally Series you can visit Rally North America here. We participated in a similar rally two years ago along the Blue Ridge Parkway and had an excellent time! There are still a few opening if you want to sign up! I think the wagon is going to look fantastic with racing stripes and numbers. I went with the classic #722 for this event. If you remember, the C43 AMG went for a classic Bumblebee look with #43.

I just happened to have these two cars on the lot at the same time and felt like they deserved to be seen together. I often can’t tell the size or scale of a vehicle when it is featured by itself. Also, having two 4-Door coupes in our line-up is bound to confuse the issue so let’s put them together and see how different they really are!

The 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT63S is the Performance Car. This is a 630 horsepower monster with a 3/1 second 0-60 estimate. It is also quite a looker! This particular car features the carbon ceramic brakes, race seats and 21″ cross-spoke wheels. The vehicle will be available in the GT53, GT63 and GT63S variants. It will be a direct competitor to the Porsche Panamera and I think it will be bringing a lot of traffic to the showroom!

The 2019 CLS-Class is an evolution of the 4-Door coupe we pioneered with the original CLS in 2006. The CLS460 is an Inline 6 cylinder with EQ boost and there will also be a CLS53 AMG. This car is more of the comfort car of the two. It is a little cushier, the cockpit is a little more open and it is tuned to be a little smoother.

I think they look very different in person. The GT63 looks beefy. The fastback design is very attractive and the hood is both wide and tall. The CLS is actually a touch more conservative which is not a normal thing to say about the CLS! I compared it to an E-Class in a previous video and it looked quite aggressive. Parked side-by-side they look like family, but definitely different.

Both cars are expected to arrive in the US “4th Quarter.” That is a vague amount of time that indicates they hope to get them out before the end of the year. I hope it is soon!

The BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class coupe are clearly competitors. They are niche vehicles and generally fill the “I want an SUV but I don’t want it to look like a kid-taxi” space. We happened to get a set of similar cars on the same day and I couldn’t resist filming them together.

These are both pre-owned cars so they do not have the latest styling, tech or engines. However, as a side-by-side comparison I think they work!

In short, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are produced at many locations around the world. Factories are often added to serve the needs or a particular model or market. The Tuscaloosa factory is the second largest exporter of vehicles from the US! MBUSA is also bringing Sprinter production to South Carolina. In the past we have reassembled the Sprinters in the US but not manufactured them here. The new factory will allow for a much faster delivery timeline of our vans.

Production itself in a marvel! I have been to severalMercedes-Benz factories and it is amazing to see both the robot assembly lines and the ones still done by people. I have seen a giant robot arm swing a dashboard through a door opening with just 2mm to spare. They said it couldn’t be done by human hands!I have seen an AMG engine builder hand assemble a V8piece bypiece in a quiet factory in Affalterbach.

The logisticsof building these German engineered cars around the world and shippingto the dealerships by ship, train and transporter is mind boggling!

Model Year 2019 is just around the corner! Mercedes-Benz is beginning to firm up the offerings of engines and options and has recently announce the E-Class.

E300, E400, E53 and E63 will be the choices for the sedan. We had heard rumor of an E350 but that has been canceled. If you ordered an E350 with your dealer you need to revise your order info!

From MBUSA: For MY19, the E-Class Sedan will continue with the 2.0L inline-4 cylinder E300, and the previously announced E350 Sedan will not be available.

Today was the world premiere of the all new 4-door variant of the AMG GT at the Geneva International Motor Show. This model expands on the existing AMGGT line up and gives us the firstvehicle exclusively designed by AMG with 4 seats!You have been seeing spy shots of this vehicle for months and ithas been referred to as the GT4 or4-door GT, and now the GT63 seems to be the name.

Yes, you should get on the order list immediately! There is definitely going to be a waiting list when it arrives late this year! I think that a lot of CLS drivers will see this as a possible upgrade from their current vehicle. I also expect to see a huge spike in my Porsche Panamera trade-ins. Huge.

No, we do not have the base pricing or the options list yet. I would expect it to be similar to the current GT models in colors and equipment possibilities. The info I do have shows that there will be three variants with escalating horsepower. I’m hoping that there will be an absolutely jaw dropping launch edition!

No, this is not a replacement for the CLS-Class. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS will be arriving this year as a complete redesign. It will be available in the CLS450, CLS450 4matic and the CLS53. While the CLS and the new 4-door GT will both be 4-door coupe in styling they will likely feel very different. In the same way that the GT Roadster and the SL63 AMG appeal to different buyers, the CLS and the 4-door GT will also be very different.

Yes, it is absolutely gorgeous and the designers have outdone themselves yet again! I think the GT is certainly winning the Geneva Motor Show and I am sure it will be winning in the showrooms too!

Over the last few years our core line-up of sedans has developed a “common design language.” This is generally a good thing as it elevates the appearance of all of the sedans and strengthens the Mercedes-Benz family resemblance.

However, for the average person that means it is harder and harder to tell the classes apart! I will admit that from a distance or while the car is moving even I can have trouble telling one from the other.Throwing in something tricky like a Luxury E-Class or a C43 can make it even more challenging!

Here is the secret:

The C-Class, the smallest sedan, has one eyebrow in the headlight. The medium-sized E-Class has two and the flagship S-Class has three. Pretty easy to tell them apart now, right? So easy!

A similar system is employedfor the tail lamps too but from the back of the car you usually have the benefit of badging to help you identifywhich vehicle you are seeing. But be careful! There is an option from the factory todelete badgingand some customers choose to debadge cars after the fact as well. You’d hate to be caught out! And what about those very bad Mercedes-Benz owners who add a fake badge to the car? Now you’ll know that that E63 is really a C-Class!

Now, there are exceptions. This only works since the 2018 S-Class received a facelift with the new 3-stripe headlamps. Also, the most basic C-Classes can have halogen headlights with no eyebrows at all. The SUVs and the coupes don’t participate in this easy to decipher head lamp system.

Next time you seeMercedes-Benzin a parking lot you’ll be able to casually say “That’s an E-Class” without having to walk to the back to look at the badging!Consider yourself a Mercedes-Benz expert!

When you purchase a new Mercedes-Benz you will receive a set of Owner’s Manuals. There is the traditional Manual that focuses on the physical features of the car and basic operation. In most new models this information is also available in the vehicle itself in the Digital Operator’s Manual.

Also included in the packet with your new car is a booklet detailing your New Car Warranty, a chart with the details of each regularly scheduled service and various other pamphlets with details about specific options and programs.

Mercedes-Benz stopped printing a separate book for the COMAND system a few years ago. It is not missing from your books! It simply does not exist anymore.

It is fairly common for these books to get lost as the vehicle changes hands over the years. There is nothing in these books that is specific to the vehicle at this point so that is not a big deal. Any set of books for a 2016 E-Class will look the same as any other 2016 E-Class.

If you are looking to find the information from these books the easiest way is to download them from the MBUSA website. It is quick and easy to choose your year and model. If you really wanted a hard copy you can print them from this file. This is also the only place to read the COMAND manual.

If you are looking for the authentic hard copies of the books then you will need to order them from your dealership’s parts department. They are rather expensive and take a few weeks to arrive.

You could also look online and see if anyone is selling a set. Perhaps they sold the car and found the books later. (This is the fate of nearly all cargo covers…found in the garage years later.)

So, if your previously enjoyed Mercedes-Benz is missing the books you can download them, order them or look for secondhand sources. Enjoy!

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class made its debut recently and was extensively covered by the automotive press. Normally this hatchback doesn’t get any attention in the Untied States because it has never been sold here. However, this time is a little different.

No, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class hatchback is not coming to the US. However, the framework and technology will be translated to a more US-friendlysedan styled vehicle that we are expecting tobe for sale by the end of calendar year 2018! The Concept A Sedan is featured in the Future Vehicle section of MBUSA and shouldgive you a pretty good idea of what the A-sedan might look like.

Later on this A-Class architecture will be the basis for the next generation CLA and GLA-Class vehicles so we are getting a sneak peek into those models as well.

There are also a lot of great reviews of the A-Class hatchback that might help you understand the underpinnings of this new model.

Car and Driver – “When it comes to the user interface, infotainment, and telematics, the next A-class will be more advanced than the S-class. Or pretty much any other car in the market, for that matter.”

AutoWeek – “The launch of the A-Class sedan will be a pretty significant step for Mercedes-Benz in the States; it’s the first true sub-C-Class sedan model offered here (we’re not counting the near-fastback CLA), which should present a tempting option for those who do not want to stretch their budgets to the now-opulent C-Class but still want a small four-door sedan with a three-pointed star.”

Jalopnik – “The new A-Class is also apparently very safe: each piece of its body is made of high-strength materials and has a very rigid passenger cell, kind of like how Smarts are made.”

I do not have any details yet on this model for the US but we have already started an order list!

So, you drive one of the most technologically advanced vehicles in the world but you really like listening to CDs? I have heard this a surprising number of times since the 2017 E300 arrived without a CD player and the 2018 S-Class was not far behind. I had this same issue when the 2003 E-Class was the first car to arrive without a tape deck. I wonder what comes after Bluetooth streaming? Usually once all of my clients become comfortable with a technology is about the time the next new things arrives to shake it up!

Mercedes heard you still listen to CDs and has come up with a solution so you can be a little old-school. I have not seen this in person but it looks pretty simple and would not interfere with the scent diffuser. I bet if your got really crafty you could fit an 8-track in there too.

The accessories team is pleased to announce the availability of the NEW CD player retrofit suitable for select E-Class and S-Class vehicles. The retrofit accessory CD player supports all current music formats and is fully integrated into the operating logic of the vehicle. Artist, album, title and cover art image are shown on the vehicles central display and the CD drive is discreetly installed in the glove compartment to protect it from prying eyes.

• CD ripping on to the head unit music register is not possible (this feature is not available in NTG5.5)
• Single CD drive only
• Functions: play, pause, stop, search forward/backward, track increment/decrement, direct track selection (Track "n"), disk check, CD-Text
• Supported formats: CD-DA, WAVE, CD-R, CR-RW, mp3, m4a, FLAC

If you are anything like me, you have forgotten to renew your tag. Now it is your birthday and you have an expired tag and inevitably this will be the day you see every police car in the county! You can pay it online but there is a fee and it will take a few days to arrive in the mail.

Well, this problem has been solved! I found this great article on AJC.com and I thought I should spread the word!

• Residents use the kiosks by scanning their Georgia driver's licenses or their mailed vehicle renewal notices.
• The kiosks give residents a self-service option to instantly print their tags, including stickers for vehicle license plates.

Thank you to the Peachtree Section of The Mercedes-Benz Club of America for sending all of the toys collected at your holiday luncheon back to Atlanta Classic Cars to fill our convertibles! What a generous group of Mercedes-Benz Enthusiasts! It filled an entire C63 AMG. We’re going to have to break out the S-Class convertibles if this keeps up!

It is Toys for Tots time at Atlanta Classic cars! Every year we fill a convertible (or two) for the Marines to take to deserving children at the holidays! We kicked off the annual drive during our Thanksgiving luncheon and are looking forward to piling the toys high!

If you are planning to visit Atlanta Classic Cars for service or sales during December, please bring along an upwrapped toy or book to add to the collection. Or have the kids bring something! It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy to spread the joy.
