I am a huge fan of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. I visited in 2008 and I always tell people the 6 hours I spent there were not nearly enough! The automotive history is impressive and the vehicles themselves are works of art! It looks like Autoweek had a good time too!

From the Owners’ Manual:

“The ECO display gives you information on how economical your driving style is. The ECO display assists you in achieving the optimum driving style in terms of consumption, taking the actual and selected conditions into consideration. Your driving style can significantly influence the vehicle’s consumption.

The ECO display consists of three bars:

• Acceleration (moderate acceleration especially at high speed)
• Constant (Constant speed and avoidance of unnecessary acceleration and deceleration)
• Coasting (Drive with care and remove your foot from the accelerator pedal in good time: the vehicle can coast without braking)

The percent value is the average value of the three bars. The three bars and the mean value begin at the value of 50%. A higher percentage indicates a more economical driving style.”

I have been watching my ECO Display while driving all month.The picture above is the best I have been able to acheive during my morning commute. This is all surface streets with stop lights and stop signs. I have seen it as low as 0% and as high as 75%but I usually end up between 40% and 45%.

The ECO Display is accessed by the steering wheel controls. When you can see the odometer push the up or down arrows until you see the ECO Display. Has anyone else tried using this screen to drive more economically? I think I will get about 20 more miles on this tank of fuel than I usually do…not a big improvement.

Yesterday I took a little road trip in a 2012 Merceded-Benz C250 courtesy car. I drove from Atlanta, GAto Columbus, GA and back before noon using about half a tank of fuel. There was heavy traffic in Atlanta that slowed me down a little but the C250 was a great vehicle for this trip -Fun to drive, plenty of space and the fuel economy was impressive! The 2012 C250is officially rated at 31 mpg on the highwaybut I was able to do even better!

This beauty will be retired from our courtesy car fleet in about a year but Atlanta Classic Cars has a great selection of Certified Pre-Owned C-Classes availablenow. Let me know if something catches your eye!

“Vehicles purchased on or after March 1, 2013 and titled in this state will be exempt from sales and use tax and the annual ad valorem tax. Instead, these vehicles will be subject to a new, one-time title ad valorem tax that is based on the value of the vehicle.

In addition, if you purchase and title a vehicle in Georgia between January 1, 2012 and March 1, 2013, you may be eligible to opt-in to the new title ad valorem tax.”

From what we understand this law is still being tweeked by the state legislature and some changes may be made. Contact your county tag office with additional questions!

All I can say is WOW! I have purchased 3 new Mercedes-Benz automobiles previously, but this fourth one was a very special car buying experience!

I was in the market for a new car so I called my very dear friend Kim Cates. Kim and I became friends when I had my car serviced at Atlanta Classic Car before moving to Jacksonville, Florida. She always provided first class service.

Kim put me in touch with Jesse Cannon-Wallace. After speaking with Jesse by phone, she went right to work finding me the right car and the best financing. Within 30 minutes she called me back and asked me to select the exact vehicle I wanted to purchase.

I flew from Jacksonville to pick up my new car a few days later. I was met at the door by Jesse with a big smile! She was gracious enough to add a stop at Fryes to purchase the iPhone 5 adaptor so I could connect my phone to the car. We arrived a little before the store opened and she respected my time by using the opportunity to complete the demonstration.

When we returned to the dealership, Jesse introduced me to Eric Palmsteen, Business Manager, to sign the paperwork. Eric went above and beyond to secure incredible financing for me. Additionally, he was so organized that it took just a few minutes to complete the transaction.

Thanks to Kim, Jesse and Eric, there is absolutely nothing more I could have expected or desired from a car buying experience. I’ve raved about my experience so much that friends in Florida plan to purchase their next vehicle from Atlanta Classic Cars! The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is scheduled to arrive in showrooms this fall. There is very limited information availableand zero official pictures right now.

Here is what I know about the timeline to launch:

• Options and Packages information should be available in late March or early April
• OrderBanks should open in April
• World Premiere will be in Germany in May
• Coupe will be redesigned in 1 year (Might be CL-Class, Might be S-Class Coupe)
• Pullman/Long Wheelbase is 2+ years out

“The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a midcycle refresh, and the face-lift is most obvious in the front, where more gracefully contoured headlights perch above larger air intakes, softening the more severe, conservative look of the outgoing E-Class’ nose.”

“Get your V8-powered non-AMG E-Class while you can. The stonking, 402-horsepower twin-turbo V8-powered E550 will still be available in 2014, but it won’t last long. In 2015 the E550 will be dropped. The new car comes with an AMG 2.0-liter turbo engine with a maximum output of 360 HP and 450 Nm of torque. Then, it is equipped with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive. The car is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.6 seconds and its speed can reach up to 250 km/h.

Based on the press release of Mercedes-Benz, the car is set to go out in the German market this coming June. On the other hand, North American customers will have to wait for the announcement regarding its release in that region.

Images of the prototype of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class were taken recently near Stuttgart in Germany.

The images showed the prototype being camouflaged that resembled earlier spy images. The upcoming luxury vehicle from Mercedes-Benz is set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. It has a length of around 4.7 meters, which makes it longer compared to the existing model by 0.1 meters. The wheelbase also increased by 80 millimeters as it has a height of 2.82 meters.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will use the MRA platform. This indicates that the C160 variant will have a total weight that is lesser than 1,380 kilograms or 3,042 lbs. The upcoming vehicle is also expected to feature a double wishbone for its front suspension as well as a new rear multi-link design.

The vehicle will also feature a four-cylinder V6 engine that is longitudinally-mounted. The output will range from 184hp (137kW) up to 330hp (246kW). The AMG model of the vehicle will feature a twin-turbo 4.0 or 5.5-liter V8 engine.

Niki Lauda, triple F1 world champion and current non-executive chairman for Mercedes, said that the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team is very competitive and should be able to challenge the top 3 teams in the sport. This is based on the team’s performance in the recently concluded winter preseason testing in Jerez, Spain, where Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton took the F1 W04 for several race distances.

“My big joy is that the Mercedes can now compete with the top three teams,” said Lauda in an interview with Bild. He added that he thought reigning champion Sebastian Vettel was still the fastest driver out there on the track, and that Vettel’s Red Bull was just a tad faster than the rest of the crop at the moment.

He also made comments about the stuggles some of the smaller teams in F1 are facing, particularly financially. He stated that those who entered the sport “chooses to” and thus, he feels no sense of pity for those teams. He added that F1 will continue to weather financial problems, as it has done in the past few decades when such problems arose.

Of course, as far as the Mercedes team’s performance goes, there’s still a lot of room for improvement. Plus, the addition of Lewis Hamilton only adds more pressure for the team to win big now and really hang with the top teams. After all, Lauda was part of the team that negotiated Hamilton’s 3-year deal with the Mercedes team.

There’s only several weeks to go before the 2013 F1 season starts, so then we’ll find out just how competitive the team is.

We could all agree for sure that Mercedes-Benz is definitely a revolutionary car brand. For generations, Mercedes-Benz never ceased to amaze people with their innovations in terms of performance, features, design and other awesome factors.

But when Dr. Dieter Zetsche tried to put emphasis on the revolutionary characteristic of the brand by featuring Ernesto "Che" Guevara, it sparked the ire of the key political figures in the Cuban-American community and two prominent lawmakers in the U.S. according to Fox News.

The news source said that the incident occurred during the keynote speech of the Daimler CEO at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Apparently, the image of the Cuban revolutionary was used by Zetsche for a brief moment during his PowerPoint presentation. His purpose was just to illustrate his point to the audience about the revolution taken by the Mercedes brand in technology. But the flashing of that image was enough to create controversy.

Daimler was quick to offer an apology by saying that it was a thoughtless and stupid decision on their part. However, it was not their intention to offend people.

Despite that, Florida Representative Mario Diaz-Balart, who was among the critics, lashed out that the apology is pathetic. He said that Che is a cold-blooded killing machine who wanted to erase capitalists from the face of the earth.Another Florida representative by the name Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said that the German automaker should be ashamed for using a murderer to promote their brand.

As a result, a Daimler spokesperson further stated that the use of the image was only viewed in a bad light. The company is not, in any way, condoning the life, actions or political philosophy of the former Cuban political figure.

Despite a bad start in the Jerez racetrack, Mercedes-Benz team drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton remain optimistic.

After completing a remarkable feat for the day, 145 laps to be exact, reporters from various news sources had a chance to get the thoughts of the 2008 F1 world champion.

Hamilton stated that he is happy with where they are now, especially with the enhanced performance of the new Formula 1 car. He praised the effort of the technical crew of the team for the great job. The young driver also attributes the great performance of the 2013 Silver Arrow to the great relationship of all the people in the team and the cooperation of their people in the factory.

However, Hamilton admitted that the speed needs improvement. He said that one crucial factor affecting the car is its lack of downforce. That is something that they are asking the people at the manufacturing plant to improve at the moment.

Mercedes-Benz E550 May Be Replaced By E400 Model  阅读原文»

Small turbo-charged engines are gradually receiving wide acceptance in the auto industry, and it appears that Mercedes-Benz is set to join the trend. The luxury car manufacturer is reportedly replacing the E550 model with an E400 model that will feature a twin-turbo-charged V6 engine.

The US market is set to see the arrival of the E400 model by fall of 2014 and will be marketed as a 2015 model vehicle. It will offer 330HP along with around 350lb-ft of torque. The upcoming vehicle is expected to be as an all-wheel drive and rear-drive version.

The Mercedes-Benz E550 features a 4.6-liter V8 engine that offers 402hp and 443lb-ft of torque. I the E550 will be replaced with the E400 model, the best model in the non-AMG Mercedes-Benz E-Class lineup will lose 60hp of power.

Despite this change, the AMG model will still remain as the top model with its 5.5 �liter V8 engine that offers 550hp and 531lb-ft of torque.

Since refreshing its system and putting in place a stricter crash test program in 2010, there have been few vehicles to claim top marks.The US NCAP made provisions for some additional tests and tightening up some of the requirements. That’s why, following the refresh, there was a considerable downturn as far as five-star holders go.

In addition to the 5-star US NCAP rating, both the C-Class and M-Class have also gotten top ratings in the European crash test. They have also scored very high in the test conducted by the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).That makes 3 international safety standards mastered by the two model classes, and that’s a clear indicator of Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to pioneering automotive safety.
