One of our readers just sent us a bunch of spy images of a bunch of smart cars in car2go livery lying in a lot in the Seattle area. Is it possible that Daimler’s own carsharing service is headed to Seattle? After all, the city is the largest in the US Pacific Northwest region and has a metropolitan area that has around 3.5 million people—perfect for services like car2go.
Of course, we know there’s a car2go service already up and running north of the border, in Vancouver, Canada. There’s still a good chance that these smart units are headed for that region, but with a complement of already 325 units there for a service that started in June last year, it doesn’t make much sense to add so many units now.
There’s also a car2go in a nearer location—Portland, which started March 2012—that has 250 combined electric and gasoline units. While the proximity of Portland might seem like a deterrent, there’s no denying that having a car2go service in Seattle still makes a lot of sense.
Thanks Amil for the tip
