2012 DTM Gary Paffett Mercedes Benz 724x482 Mercedes All Set for Climactic Battle at 2012 DTM Finale

It all comes down to one race. This weekend, the winners of the 2012 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters will finally be crowned, and fans should be treated to a tight race on Sunday. Gary Paffett is hoping to take his THOMAS SABO Mercedes AMG C-Coupe to victory, although it's not going to be easy with BMW's Bruno Spengler hot on his trail and fellow Mercedes driver Jamie Green also with a shot at the title.

Here's how the drivers' championship standings are right now: Paffett is leading at 127 points, Spengler is very close at 124 points, and Green has 109 points. Audi drivers Mike Rockenfeller (85 points) and Mattias Ekstrom (81) are at fourth and fifth, respectively. It would be quite shocking to see somebody else take the win this Sunday, especially when one considers that Paffett has led the drivers' standings all the way since his win at the first race, which was also at Hockenheim.

"In the past, Hockenheim has always been a good stomping ground for me—at no other track have I won more DTM races and finished so frequently on the podium as at the Hockenheimring," said Paffett, who has four DTM wins here (2004, 2009, 2010, 2012 opener). "I would like to be in contention for another win in the finale at Hockenheim and hopefully secure the championship."

For the team standings, Mercedes' Paffett-led HWA Team is leading BMW Team Schnitzer by 8, 151-143. The Mercedes AMG team of Jamie Green is at third with 117. Meanwhile, Audi's strong performances in recent races at Zandvoort and Valencia have allowed it to take the lead in the manufacturer's championship. It has 327 points, Mercedes has 296, and BMW has 286. It's wide-open at this point.

12C1015 024 724x407 Frontbass and Signature Sound Debuts In SL

Music and cars have been inseparable companions, ever since the first radios were installed in cars. Nowadays, we have thousand-watt systems that can literally shatter your eardrums if you're foolish enough to do so. But whatever your preferences, the combination of the appropriate tunes, an agreeable companion and your favorite road can make for a truly memorable and emotional experience.

Despite the proliferation of installation shops and the plethora of options available, most aftermarket systems are compromised by the platforms they are put in. To negate these compromises as much as possible, Mercedes has developed its Frontbass sound system. Initially available only for the SL-class, the Frontbass system is the result of a development process begun in 2005, with the aim of reproducing the most accurate sound possible in a car. Using the SL's structure as its soundstage, the Frontbass system is able to use the foot space as woofer enclosures. Traditionally, it was not possible to do so, as there was simply no installation or resonating space. With the SL, the two longitudinal front members in the frame structure were designed in such a way that the loudspeakers could fit directly. The cavities in the aluminum structure then serve as the resonating chambers for the woofers. The foot space in front of the speakers then forms a funnel for the sound. Midrange drivers and tweeters are placed at ear level for the most accurate reproduction and staging.

To help introduce the system, Mercedes partnered with Grammy winner Herbert Waltl to produce a music DVD which contains 15 well-known rock and pop songs, along with ten masterpieces from the world of classical music. The tracks include "Cold As Ice" by Foreigner, "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga, "Everyday Is A Winding Road" by Sheryl Crow, the "Violin Concerto K 218" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and "Symphony No. 5" by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Smaller Mercedes-Benz G-Class in the Works? "Mini-G" Could Launch by 2015  阅读原文»

Mercedes Benz G Wagen Smaller Mercedes Benz G Class in the Works?

If the Samsung Galaxy S III has a Samsung Galaxy Mini, then the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen has… the Mini-G? There is a lot of buzz these days about Mercedes’ plans to launch a smaller G-Wagen, and this unit—codenamed "Mini-G" internally and said to be slated to have a GLG badge—will be based on the A-Class and could be launched sometime around the middle of 2015.

As expected, there are barely any details about the vehicle at the moment—even the name isn’t final yet—but it is expected that it will feature many physical traits similar to the original G-Wagen while having internal components like a smaller engine range. Of course, there might even be an AMG model in the works as well in order to cater to the high-performance crowd.

According to sources, the GLG is set to get all-wheel drive to justify the G-Class branding and also to boost the credibility of the new model. Still, we shouldn’t dismiss the possibility that the lower-end models in the range would only have front-wheel drives.

With this new smaller G-Class set to join the Mercedes-Benz lineup within the next few years, it’s clear that the company is still reaching out and trying to foster growth in certain fresh segments in the automotive market.

Mercedes Places In List Of Cool Brands

coolBenz Mercedes Places In List Of Cool Brands

Most people, car enthusiasts or not, know that ownership of a Mercedes is a mark of status and an affirmation of knowing how to appreciate the fine things in life. In the UK, the Mercedes brand has debuted at number 16 in the CoolBrands list. This list, compiled from an annual survey of around 3,000 respondents, recognizes the coolness factor of a brand by ranking attributes like innovation, originality, style, authenticity, desirability and uniqueness.

No surprises that Apple is number one, but Mercedes in its debut year was the top non-British automotive brand. Mercedes joins a diverse list of brands that are undoubtedly cool, such as Bang & Olufsen, Twitter, Virgin Atlantic, Sony, Haagen-Dazs and Nikon, among others. Now on its 11th year, the CoolBrands list identifies the coolest brands from a selection of 1,200 brand names.

Rob Halloway, Communications Director at Mercedes-Benz commented on the results: “I think by its very nature, coolness is in the perception of others. I think that cool things have a certain style, elegance and swagger about them. Cool people possess all these qualities, and cool brands blend a timeless quality with absolute topicality. It sounds like an oxymoron, but that's what makes cool "cool". Like style over fashion, cool endures where trendiness tends to be transient.

CLS Shooting Brake Scale Models Hit the Market  阅读原文»

Mercedes Benz CLS Shooting Brake Scale models CLS Shooting Brake Scale Models Hit the Market

With the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake recently being available for prospective buyers to purchase at dealerships, the manufacturer is also set to make the car available to miniature model collectors. Mercedes-Benz is set to unleash a set of model cars sometime around the tail-end of this month, in 1:18 as well as 1:43 scale, and these miniature Shooting Brake copies will be available from the Mercedes online shop (https://shop.mercedes-benz.com) and from the automaker's sales partners.

These scale models of the popular CLS Shooting Brake was designed with the help of model car specialist Norev. The models were first laid out with the vehicle's original CAD data, so they are all accurate depictions of the actual car. In addition, the models use the same paints used on the actual CLS Shooting Brake and are hand-assembled as well.

Expect a ton of details for the 25.5-centimeter 1:18 models that enhance the experience. For one, you can open different parts, such as the boot, doors, and the bonnet. You can marvel at the intricate interior detailing that went into each model in order to reflect the interior furnishings of the actual car. Exterior detailing includes LED headlights, Intelligent Light System fittings, and multi-spoke alloy wheels. There are over 115 individual parts in all.

The 1:43 scale models, on the other hand, comes with over 53 individual parts and those looking to collect them can choose from diamond white metallicBRIGHT, manganite grey SHAPE, and iridium silver―the original paint colors. LED headlights, ILS, and multi-spoke aluminum wheels complete the accessory detailing on the exterior of the scale model, which also comes with a printed base.

The 1:18 models are available for an SRP (in Germany) of 69.90 euros (around $90), while the smaller 1:45 models have an SRP of 29.90 euros (a shade under $39).

“Little did we realize just how badly the GL would bully the other 10 competitors. At the end of our testing, we’d narrowed the field down to three potential winners: the GL, the Ford Escape, and the Nissan Pathfinder. But in truth, it was no contest.”

“The real point, however, is how totally and completely the new GL dominates this segment. Calling it best in class is the definition of an understatement. It’s the best the class has ever seen.”

“At first glance against our six criteria — Performance of Intended Function, Design Advancement, Engineering Excellence, Efficiency, Safety, and Value — the Mercedes nails five of them. Value is, of course, the sticky wicket. But as stated earlier, when you start comparing apples to apples, the GL is no more expensive than the vehicles it directly competes against.”

wpid 1861 big F1: Dismal Results for Mercedes in Korea

Mercedes AMG Petronas went into the 2012 Korean Grand Prix with high hopes, but those hopes weren’t rewarded with championship points as Michael Schumacher finished 13th while Nico Rosberg had to retire in lap 2 after a collision. Sebastian Vettel scores the win and punctuated a Red Bull 1-2 finish by claiming the lead in the driver’s standings. This was the first time this season that any team had a 1-2. “There are some races where nothing comes together and which you simply have to move on from straight away,” said Schumacher. “This was one of them.” “Unfortunately this has been the second poor weekend in a row for me, and it's very frustrating to be taken out twice in the first corners of the race,” said an obviously frustrated Rosberg. “Kobayashi hit me from behind today and that was my race over.” This was the same story as in Japan, and it’s easy to see why the team would just want to move on. Here’s to a better result in India for the stagnating Mercedes F1 team.

SLS Black Ring SLS Black Series Prototype Incinerates Itself

At the Nurburgring, an SLS Black Series prototype that was testing burned down almost completely. But this is the reason Mercedes-Benz tests, and retests, its vehicles. To remove the possibility of any catastrophe befalling any would-be owners. As the top-performing model in Mercedes' array of cars, the SLS is already an extreme performance car. In case you haven't noticed, it has become a perennial frontrunner in GT3 races. With that kind of pedigree, a Black Series SLS for the road is but a natural progression.

Since all Black Series models are hardcore versions of Mercedes cars, no one knows as yet which component of this extreme SLS was responsible for the fire. It can be any of a host of possibilities. Leaky fuel system? Overheated brakes? Rubbing tires? Glowing exhaust? What we can be sure of is that the engineers from Stuttgart will thoroughly investigate this incident and will only release a Black Series SLS after signing off on the absolute integrity of the car. Unlike some red-painted sports cars that seem to spontaneously combust with regularity on the road.

F1 Mercedes AMG Petronas Korean Grand Prix 2012 724x541 F1 Preview: Mercedes Gears Up for Korean Grand Prix

After a fairly solid run through the Friday practice of the 2012 Korean Grand Prix, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team is in high spirits and should head into qualifying with a decent shot at good results. Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg combined for 112 laps through the Korea International Circuit without incident and managed to put in some aerodynamic development as well.

Speaking after the Friday practice runs, Schumacher noted that the team should figure in the top 10 in qualifying and will work their strategy to suit this projection. "We have made some small changes, nothing major, and we looked ok on our long runs," he added. "Of course, I haven’t been able to study the times from the other teams yet, but we will try to secure a solid result this weekend."

"We had some small new things to try on the car which worked quite well, and we seem to be looking better here than in Suzuka," said Rosberg. "So I'm looking forward to tomorrow and seeing where we are compared to the other cars."

The MGP W03 really looks suited for the Korean GP circuit, which features 12 of 18 corners under 200kph (with 6 under 100kph) as well as four 280-kph-or-faster zones each lap. The team is looking forward to a solid qualifying session and is hopeful for some nice championship points come race day. We'll keep you posted on the qualifying results, so you'll never miss any of the action.

Fans of the Mille Miglia race are about to get a treat as the Mercedes-Benz Museum is showcasing the "Mille Miglia Passion and Rivalry" exhibition. The exhibition started October 10 and is set to run all the way through January 6, 2013.

The exhibition is made possible through the cooperation of the Museo Mille Miglia. It features nine vehicles (from Mercedes and from competitors as well) that have participated in the 1,000-mile race previously. Aside from vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz SSK, Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, and Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, the vehicle showcase also includes legendary cars from Alfa Romea, Ferrari, and Lancia.

Vehicles aren't the only items on display―attendees will also be able to marvel at photos and texts about the different drivers and the races that made the Italian event so spectacular and popular.

The Mille Miglia open-road race started in 1927 and had a long run through 1957. It took competitive race cars on the road for a total of 1,000 miles, going nonstop from Brescia to Rome, and then heading back to Brescia again.

2048 12A1173 704x600 Gaggenau Plant Produces It 5 Millionth Transmission

Five million. By any measure, whether it be sales, currency or units produced, it’s a significant number. All the more so when you’re talking about Mercedes transmission units, which are not a mere collection of casings, forks and gears. The precision work required to produce components that need to withstand hundred of pounds of torque and yet last decades means that quality is a foremost concern.

Recognized as a competence center in the Mercedes production network, the Gaggenau plant is tasked with producing three types of manual transmissions. The first is for the A- and B-Class cars that leave the assembly line in Rastatt and Kecskemet in Hungary. The are the FSG type transmissions. Also produced in Gaggenau are the TSG type transmissions, which can be found in the Vito and Sprinter vans. Finally, type NSG transmissions are shipped from here to the assembly lines at Bremen and Sindelfingen, which produce the C- and E-Class.

Gaggenau has been producing light transmissions since 1981. Intially, it produced the G-series transmissions. This was the plant’s product until 2003, when newer design transmissions were phased in, such as the NSG and FSG. Then in 2008, TSG type transmissions destined forLudwigsfelde, Dusseldorf and Vitoria in Spain were added to the product mix.

Brabus Presents Its CLS Shooting Brake  阅读原文»

2048 b12aa252 724x481 Brabus Presents Its CLS Shooting Brake

The CLS Shooting Brake has only been recently released and already, premium Mercedes tuner Brabus has released its version. In its most powerful version, Brabus has seen to upgrade the 5.5 liter's output to almost 620 horsepower with a corresponding bump in torque to 737 foot-pounds. This was primarily done with a revised ECU and charge air cooler. Consequently, maximum velocity in this speed-delimited car is 320 km/hr or almost 200 miles per hour. To complement this performance, Brabus has partnered with Bilstein in developing a suspension kit that offers revised rates to take advantage of the higher engine output.

True to form, Brabus has equipped the CLS Shooting Brake with its 20-inch monoblock wheels to complement the Brabus body kit. Consisting of a revised front apron, side skirts and front spoiler, the kit also adds integrated daytime running lights in front and entrance lights on the skirts. At the back, distinctive Brabus tailpipes differentiate it from the stock Shooting Brake as it blasts past other cars.

Brabus though has not limited its tuning options to the top-of-the-line shooting brake. Revised ECUs are also available for the diesel models, and these are easily programmable from an authorized dealer. Of course, other Brabus appointments like Alcantara trim, revised shifters, pedal pads and even gauge clusters are available, whatever Shooting Brake you have in mind. As the leading tuner for all things Mercedes, Brabus has you covered.

The Mercedes-Benz Classic Calendar 2013, which is available now, should be a great calendar choice for Silver Arrow enthusiasts and car/art lovers in general. It offers people some neat visuals that will surely add character to any room―Mimmo Rotella decollage-style poster art is mixed with images of S-Class models from the past.

Basically, you get 12 images (one per month, of course) of decollages and images of S-Class cars from 1904 onward. Each image was merged together by Monty Shadow, a Croatian-born artist. The calendar is intended to be a tribute to the luxury saloon models that have come before, while also ushering in a new era of S-Class design.

"With the Mercedes-Benz Classic Calendar, we are presenting twelve models from the long history of the S-Class in a new aesthetic setting," said Mercedes-Benz Classic Head Michael Bock. "The calendar motif for January features Emil Jellinek's luxurious long-distance saloon, the Mercedes Simplex 60 hp from 1904. It marks not only the start of the year, but also the origins of the S-Class itself."

Domenico Rotella, or Mimmo Rotella, was an Italian artist who became famous for using torn-up advertising posters. He used techniques such as psychogeography and decollage, which are apparent from the visual cues found in the images of the Classic Calendar, which is available now.
