Mercedes-Benz Introduces two A-Class BlueEfficiency Variants
Mercedes A180 BlueEfficiency (petrol) and A180 CDI (diesel) are the two variants added to the A-Class line-up. These two models are the precise opposites of the Mercedes AMG versions.
Mercedes-Benz has launched two BlueEfficiency variants with the diesel as the most fuel efficient that the German luxurious car company has ever made and that is the A180 CDI.
The A180 CDI (diesel) brags its 1.5 litre and 4-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 109 bhp/260 Nm. It declares a fuel frugality of 33.16 kmpl and 92g/km CO2 emissions.
The petrol version Mercedes A180 uses 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that gives fuel efficiency of 22.95 kmpl and 120g/km CO2 emissions.
The improvement on the fuel efficiency of the BlueEfficiency models compared to the regular variants having the same engines is about 5%. Certain changes have been made to these two variants. Both have a reprogrammed ECU, modified generator management system, improved underbody airflow and reduced aero drag because of the fractional covering made on the radiator grille.
Now that Mercedes has released S-Model variants for the E- and S-Class, the SLS AMG has, for now, been left stranded in terms of horsepower bragging rights. As we all know, power isn't everything when it comes to evaluating sports car performance, but…
To the rescue comes Kleeman, a tuner who has developed a supercharger kit for the SLS AMG. Installing this supercharger kit will give an SLS AMG 762 horsepower, which puts an SLS back on top as king of the hill. Of course, with the precise metering the M159 engine requires, one can't just remove the turbos, slap on the supercharger and be done with it.
Apart from the supercharger, Kleeman will replace the exhaust system, adding stainless steel cats, an X-pipe and a valve controlled rear silencer. Needless to say, some ECU recalibration is in order but at the end of the day, you will have your 760 horsepower SLS. Which should be enough to keep all but the most insane builds at bay.

Clark Gable’s Gullwing Finally Sold for $1.85 Million
We wrote an article earlier about the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing originally owned by the Hollywood legend Clark Gable which was featured in the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction on January 19.
As stated early on, the car was bought by Gable as brand new. Then, he had it fitted with some customizations like the wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel and Rudge knockoffs. Upon the actor's death, it was sold to a theme-park tycoon. After that, it switched hands in 2003 to an Oklahoma City Mercedes-Benz dealer.
Later on, the Gullwing was restored by Massachusetts-based Mercedes-Benz specialists. However, the additions installed by Gable were left untouched.
Due to the type of the car and its history, it was projected to fetch at least $2 million in the auction. Despite those factors, the bidding came to a standstill at $1.9 million. The car was not sold due to the reserve it carried. But later on, it was eventually sold for $1.85 million.
It is rare to see the Tesla Model S EV in the United States although around 3,000 units were sold in 2012. This indicates that only a small number of videos of the car are available online, but it is gradually increasing. As a result, when a new video showing the performance of the Tesla Model S EV makes its way into the net, it is something that a car enthusiast would like to watch.
One recent video was uploaded by DragTimes and it showed the Tesla Model S EV going up against the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, which features a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine. The E63 output reaches 518HP although it does not have a performance pack.
As the two cars burn rubber, the instant toque delivery of the Tesla and the absence of gear-shifting sees the Model S beating the Mercedes to the punch despite have a smaller power output at 416HP, where only 386HP reach the wheels.
After some time, the Mercedes starts to catch up to the Tesla. However, in the reality, with all the stoplights, corners, and traffic, the Tesla will have the Mercedes eating its dust. Nonetheless, the 1 to 1100 mph or 1 to 176 km/h race saw a rather even matchup between to two cars.

Mercedes Provides 70 Vehicles For Latest Die Hard Movie
Fans of a certain, um, demographic, will remember with fondness the Die Hard series of movies starring a supercop portrayed by Bruce Willis. Aging though he is , Bruce Willis still does blockbuster action movies, and this latest installment in the series is no exception.
What will be noticeable is the preponderance of Mercedes vehicles our hero will be using throughout the movie, from the Mercedes C-Class to Zetros trucks. In between, we'll see ML-Class SUVs and like Willis himself, ageless Unimogs and G-Wagens. It's no secret that car manufacturers nowadays use blockbuster movies as a vehicle for advertising their products. In the latest Die Hard, Mercedes provided 70 assorted vehicles, at least 4 of each model. Needless to say, after the shoot, there were considerably less intact Mercedes vehicles.
So, the good cop uses Mercedes cars and trucks to battle the Russian mob for the sake of his son. We don't know if it was deliberate or not, but the villains in the movie seem to be using certain vehicles with propeller badges.

Mercedes Teasing CLA For The Superbowl
Ok, so Superbowl 47 is practically here, and corporate advertisers have reserved their slots for those all-important commercials. Mercedes has found value in its Superbowl placements and it has embraced social media in a big way, using these sites to whet the public's appetite on upcoming models. Late last year, BenzInsider did a post on a shoot that the company was doing in anticipation of this year's Superbowl.
Now that the ads are wrapped and ready, Mercedes has begun teasing a few clips on YouTube to whip MB fans into a frenzy for the CLA, which seems to be the focus for Mercedes this year. The first clip, called Diner, seems to be the ad that we posted about last year. The message we get is that something is coming and it's raising temperatures and anticipation as it gets closer. No prizes for guessing what that is.
The second clip shows the CLA doing a J-turn to park at the start of the red carpet. Maybe the actor getting off the car is supposed to be a star, but then we know what the real star of the ad is.
Carlsson is better known as a tuning firm that produces high-end performance and aesthetic kits for Mercedes luxury sedans. With their announcement of a racer specially developed for international hillclimbs, Carlsson is making it known that they are in the business of developing hardcore race cars too.
As the renderings show, the basis for the car will be a Mercedes SLK, hence the company moniker for it as the Carlsson SLK 340. Unlike today's Mercedes sedans that don't reflect engine sizes by their badges anymore, the SLK 340 does displace 3.4 liters from its V8. Said V8 will be developing 610 horsepower and around 317 lb-ft of torque. Mated to the engine will be a proper Hewland competition transmission that will help propel the 1,700 pound race car to insane velocities.
Body panels and parts of the structure are fabricated from carbon fiber, including the seats and rear diffuser. A KW coilover suspension will handle the corners in tandem with Avon tires on 18-inch BBS rims. Carlsson adds that all relevant safety measures are implemented, including the installation of a competition-spec rollcage.
Georgia License Plates – Standard and Standard Alternate Tags
The State of Georgia has lots of choices for your license plates – you can see all of them at the Department of Revenue site. However, if you do not want to pay for a specialty tag you still have two choices.
The Standard Tag
and the Standard Alternate Tag
Make sure to specify! In my experience people have pretty strong feelings about the Standard Tag and might prefer the single peach on the Standard Alternate Tag!

2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan and Wagon – New Colors – Hyacinth Red and Covelline Blue
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is ready to order! Our first 2014 E-Classes are scheduled to be built in March with an expected late spring release date. Now is the time to get your order in if you want to be the first one on the block with a refreshed E-Class! A lot of the options and colors carried over from the 2013 but there are two new colors coming – Hyacinth Red Metallic (code 996) and Covelline Blue Metallic (code 585).
These are the swatches from the ordering guide:
I have not seen either color in person yet so I cannot interpret them for you. I think the Hyacinth Red might be the same color featured on the 2014 CLA-Class pictures shown on the future models page.
So, if you have had Black, White and Silver…maybe it is time to branch out!
The 2013 Superbowl is happening at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this February and Mercedes-Benz has big plans! Here is a sneak peek at the CLA-Class commercial that will debut during the game.
[Video] Mercedes-Benz CLA Ad: “Untamed”
Mercedes-Benz is really going all-out as far as marketing the new CLA goes. The automaker, via its MercedesBenzTV channel on YouTube, has outed a fresh commercial for the vehicle. We see the familiar action shots of a vehicle isolated across roads and different types of terrain, although here, we get to see a wolf running around as if it were an avatar for the car.
The spot highlights some of the qualities of the CLA, such as its ‘dynamic coupe character’ and other key features and technologies of the vehicle. Still, likening the CLA to a wolf and showcasing stuff like BlueEFFICIENCY and Collision Prevention Assist isn’t exactly what most people might have in mind when mentioning the word ‘untamed’.
On the other hand, the video has great cinematography and really makes the sleekness of the CLA show. Plus, there’s a nice scene at the end involving the car and the wolf. There’s certainly more happening here than in that teaser for the Super Bowl spot starring Kate Upton.
Seeing former Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes AMG Petronas digs definitely takes some getting used to. If you’re one of the Mercedes fans holding their breath until you see Hamilton in action once the new season comes around, let’s fast-track the process of getting used to Lewis Hamilton as the new driver for the team.
There’s this video, for instance, released by the Mercedes AMG Petronas YouTube channel, featuring Hamilton’s trip to Stuttgart. He speaks of adjusting, learning, and motivation for the upcoming season, among other things.
Oh, and we get to see the new Mercedes-Benz CLA in the background in one part of the video. Clever placement, Mercedes-Benz.

Lewis Hamilton Gets To Grips With Being Part Of Mercedes
With the first testing scheduled for F1 in Jerez, new team driver Lewis Hamilton jetted into Germany to get a taste of what it means to be at the spearhead of Mercedes motorsports. First stop was the AMG facility in Affalterbach, where Hamilton got a personally guided tour courtesy of Ola Kallenius, AMG head. At the factory, Lewis also did a meet and greet with employees, aside from being shown the engine works, where AMG's jewel-like customer engines are crafted.
Part of Lewis' swing through the Mercedes empire included a visit to the Mercedes Museum, where Lewis saw a century's worth of not just cars, but also automotive history. Part of the tour saw Hamilton in the hall where Mercedes' Grand Prix winners were displayed. We, of course can't say what went through his mind as he saw that historical parade of winner's cars. All we can be sure of though is that the pressure to perform and finish first could only have increased.
Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts will have the opportunity to acquire the Business Line package of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.
AMG Chief Executive Officer Ola Kllenius gave some information on the soon-to-be-released Business Line option of the 2014 E63 AMG. He indicated that it will be offered by the Performance Studio of AMG and will be limited to the European market only.
The design of the luxury car will be adjusted to give it a look similar to the standard E-Class through the upcoming package from AMG. Consumers will notice the absence of the quad exhaust system on the modified 2014 E63 AMG after it will be offered in the Business Line package.
The performance of the luxury vehicle will not be affected since the changes are going to be on the exterior. The 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo engine will still be used on the Business Line of the E63 AMG. The engine offers 557HP (410kW) of power and torque of 531 lb-ft (720Nm).
The Business Line of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG will not be available in the US market since the practice of using a stock design of the flagship vehicle is mainly a German concept.

Mercedes-Benz India Introduces the Premium Segment with the New A-Class
Based on a report by The Hindu Business Line, Mercedes-Benz India will be entering the premium segment with the A-Class this coming summer. Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said that although it would be the first time for the A-Class to hit the Indian market, it would be the refreshed version of the model. He stated that the move is aimed to go against the BMW X1. Starting next month until the rest of the year, the company will also be releasing the new GL, CLA, E-Class and the diesel type B-Class.
The position of the company in the Indian market seemingly remains strong which is the reason why they are confident with the move according to several sources. It was further revealed in the news that the company is thinking about making a facility at the Chakan, Maharashtra area to serve as its export destination.
Scheduled for introduction at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the new S-Class was recently seen winter testing. Unlike earlier pre-production prototypes with extensive camouflage cladding, this new coupe from Mercedes is seen in more or less final form. In fact, the only significant coverings on this car envelope the bumper area, where a lot of refinements can still be done to portray the look Mercedes designers want. And speaking of refinement, this luxury coupe is setting its sights on the Bentley Continental GT. Expect then that this top-of-the-line two-door from Mercedes to emphasize luxury as much as performance.
Speaking of which, the 2014 S-Class coupe will not be a slouch in any of its guises. Even with its large mass, Mercedes' V8 and V12 engines will ensure that these cars will perform like a luxury yacht instead of a land barge. The S500 will be fitted with a 4.8-liter V8 with an output of 435 horsepower, while the S600 will boast of a smooth V12 with 544 horsepower. In V12 guise, Mercedes has ensured that it will outpace the Bentley Continental.
Nowadays, no Mercedes model seems to be released without an AMG version, so there will be a pair of S63 and S65 AMGs to choose from. The S63 will be running AMG's workhorse 5.5-liter V8 (544 hp), while the V12 will be massaged by the master tuners to a soaring output of 630 horsepower. Together with these massive outputs will be AMG-exclusive trim like wheel arches with 21-inch wheels, a DTM-style diffuser and quad tailpipes. Prices will be in the region of if you have to ask…
